Uh-oh! My dog ate some philadelphia cheese! I have o idea opf how it got on the floor but I guess it fell out of the fridge... which is kinda odd... cuz we found it in the middle of the hallway... all I know is that no one put it on the floor. Anyway, we saw her eating it after a while so I think she had it for quite a while. When we caught her, she had cheese all over her nose. By the way, she is about a 5 and a half month old west highland white terrier (westie). So she is just a little puppy. I'm not sure if she was just playing but she seemed to be digging her head under her when she was lying down. And she kept doing that for a while. I also noticed her moving her mouth a little bit. Maybe still tasting the cheese. She seemed pretty fine after that I guess. Is she gunna be ok?

Yes, she'll be OK. Cream cheese is not toxic to dogs. She may have a little bit of stomach/gas problems after, but nothing serious.

Some dogs don't produce sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase which breaks down lactose (the sugar in milk and milk-based dairy products) - that's why cheese should be avoided.

How much did she eat? Almost certainly the worst she'll suffer is an upset stomach, diarrhoea and a little gas. Keep an eye on her if she seems to be in pain, and if she does produce diarrhoea then make sure you offer her enough water to drink to make up water lost in the stool.

How much of it did she eat? And was the cheese still edible by human standards?

If it was moldy take her to the vet now, if not she will prolly pull through ok, she may get the runs and/or vomit tonight, but just make sure she has access to fresh water and she should be ok, if you get really worried take her to the vet. Trust your instincts more than the opinions of strangers on the internet, if you think she needs a vet take her.

Yes you shouldn't give human food to dogs because it's really unhealthy to them. They like it but it's not good for them. And cream cheese is really fattening so it's like a slow death from obesity. You need to stop the cycle now or you are risking his life.

I wouldn't let her make a diet of it, but a chunk isn't likely to do any damage. At most, she might have a little diarrhea, but maybe not even that. Just keep an eye on her for the next day or so.

Cream cheese is a bit gooey.

I don't think it will hurt her. But if you're not sure call a vet and ask.

I have never heard of a dog dying from cream cheese. She should be fine.
