The police may take a report of the accident.

Turn the claim into your insurance company. They will do an investigation and determine fault. If they think you are at fault they will settle up with the other person. If they think you are not at fault - they will deny the other person and will hire an attorney to defend you should the other person pursue legal action.

That is why you always call the police and have a report done, to stop fraud at a later time like she is trying to do.

Let your insurance company know, just in case, and give them her information so they can contact her insurance company and discuss it. If your car has zero damage, it is going to be hard for her to prove you caused any damage to her car, and it could well be it was her fault and not yours.

By the way, the worth of a 1990 Ford Taurus will be between $600 and $800, depending on condition. Still far under what she is asking, so if there really is that much damage, they will probably total it for about $600, not fix it for $1,000.

But let your insurance company work it out. It may be she is at fault and will get nothing.

The person could go down the the correct PD and file a report themselves. This won't really mean anything as it's just their offical report (their version). No tickets would be issued and no investigation done by the PD.

You _need_ to report this accident to your insurance company! If you don't know who is at fault then there is a possiblity its _you_. One reason why you have insurance is so that your carrier can investigate the loss and either pay it if your responsible or provide you a defense if your not.

As far as damages... most peole don't realize how expense body repair is these days.

I had something like that happen a could years ago. They didn't call the police but called my insurance company and I got screwed and almost lost my license.I don't think the police can do anything now. If it every happens again call the police and don't report it but just let them know it happened and that there was no damage done to the cars. If you report it to the police then u have to call your insurance company.
