Your age is going to be a major stumbling block for you at this point, especially for people with young children. But there are things you can start doing now so that when you are older you'll be a very appealing babysitter. 1. Get CPR certified, contact a Red Cross center in your town for certification classes. 2. Take babysitting classes, these may be offered through your local library, Red Cross, or contact a Community Action Partnership.

When I was 13, I got a ton of babysitting jobs (more than I could handle!) from people at church, on my paper route (I guess kids can`t have paper routes anymore), neighbors, neighbor`s friends, etc. You can also volunteer to help nearby day care centers, YMCAs, churches (LDS churches are sure to have lots of parents and kids!!!) , etc. and get to know kids and parents. Sometimes my teachers even asked me to help babysit. Also, sometimes at weddings, people are looking for young. responsible girls to help babysit with a few adults supervising as well.

You just have to get out there and get to know people and their kids. I know several 13 year old girls that I would have absolutely no qualms about leaving my daugher with for a few hours (my daughter is pretty well behaved so she should not give a 13 year old any problems). However, I would be afriad to look after kids who are very wild or violent or know how to get away with murder when a babysitter is there (I wouldn`t have known what to do with them even when I was 25)! I got myself into some pretty sticky situations with such parents and kids so you definately want to get to know the people and kids you are babysitting first and be sure to have a trusted adult (like your parent) nearby in case something happens. Good luck!

Good luck with that one. There is no way I'd leave a 13 year old alone with my kids unless I knew them very, very well ...and even then, it wouldn't be for more than a few minutes.
