Living or dead? After all, genealogy is mostly about dead people. Not all, but most.
For finding live people:
Two good places I use are www.zabasearch.com and www.peoplefinder.com
If not alive, depending where and when, try SSDI or genealogy websites, including the famous www.cyndislist.com.
Either way, don't forget your local library; city directories are a big help in searching for people.
