my friends teacup schnauser is now about three yrs old and is bleeding from the rectum for the second time in a year. last time the vet my friend went to said its from a nervous condition in small dogs. at the time he said if the dog had'nt gotten to the hospital when she did it would have been dead in 30 mins. from the bleeding. they said there was nothing wrong with the dog other than a nervous condition. has anyone heard of this before or know of anything else it could be. maybe something related to teacup schnausers.

she was just at the vets again and they say this is from nervousness. we believe that there has to be some other contributing factor. also last time the bill ran $1,300. if it is just nervousness then she will have to put little p down because she can't continue to pay that much every time she gets nervous.

Little P went over the rainbow bridge last night. She had HGE which is Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. This is common in many breeds that are miniature or smaller. I would like to add that she was a rescued dog, and my friend did not "buy" her because she wanted a trendy pocket pup. She and her children did not ask for this and what they expected was to give her a loving home. For the short time she was with them she had that.

Teacup is the problem. When a pup has a name with "teacup in the breed, it is already doomed. They are not healthy when they are born and they have health issues because they are bred improperly.

Your friend should send her pup to the rainbow bridge so it doesn't have to suffer anymore..

Add: I'm really sorry for your friend and she was wonderful for rescuing the pup. I'm sure this little pup had the best life with her! Now the pup is at peace and doesn't have to be nervous anymore.

Have your friend get another pup. It helps. I lost a pup to renal failure in March. Hardest thing me and my family had to go through. In hindsight, I should have let her go before I took her to the animal hospital, but I never thought she was that sick! She was 9 1/2 years old. I guess we always hold out hope. Now I have two pups, we got a rescue in May and a purebred in August, and we are very happy with our two pups. Happy Holidays

Dog needs to get to the vet. I wouldn't wait any longer. The more blood that is lost the more lethargic the dog becomes and could die.

There are many reason an animal will bleed from their rectum. But the only sure way to find out is to see a vet. I highly suggest that route.

I don't know about teacup schnauzers, but I can tell you that almost any teacup dog comes with a long list of health problems. Next time, have your friend get a normal sized dog.

For the love of God, go to a different vet!!! Claiming rectal bleeding is the result of nervousness is one thing - but if your friend is spending this amount of money and not getting results, don't go back there!

Definetly related to the poor dog being a "teacup". I hope he's ok now.
