On a high heat I would say for thin to medium steaks about 4-6 minutes on each side. Thinner steaks will dry out quicker so keep an eye on them. Also, try not to flip the steaks more than once if you can help it. This will help keep the juices from draining out and will keep the meat tender.

Grill should be on highest heat. Start with meat on 45 deg angle and cook for three to four minutes. Rotate so the meat is 45 deg in other direction to make diamond gril marks. Cook until the meat starts to sweat blood through the top of it. Flip. When the meat starts to sweat blood again it is Med-rare. When the blood flow fast it is medium. When it flow clear blood it is med well. When the blood stops flowing, it is well. Touch your thumb to your ring finger. When the steak is as firm as the pad of your thumb, it is med-well. I can't give times without knowing how hot the grill is or the thickness of the meat. For Med-well and well we usually press the meat out to more than 1/2" It will cook faster and stay moist that way. Put between plastic and pound with the heel of your hand. --Grill cook.

about 7 minutes on each side. Check to see that there are few fluids coming out of the meat. when the fluids come out clear that mens the blood is cooked out. also by feel the rarer the meat the more springy it is . when the meat is cooked more it is firmer. it will also tend to shrink up a little more when it is done

you shouldn't. if a steak's any good, have it rare. or medium rare if you must. but medium well is just a waste.
