No, there are at least 20 million illegal aliens in our country, and most of them are poor and Mexican. Do you really want to legalize over 10 million Mexicans in the USA? The Mexicans are taught in their schools that the southwest USA belongs to them and their plan to regain that territory is called La Reconquista.Think about that.
Most of the Mexican illegals will remain loyal to Mexico all their lives, and they will not learn to speak English or assimilate to our culture. We already allow over 1 million legal immigrants into our country every year, and that is more than enough. We are importing poverty and adding to the number of people needing government support by allowing these illegal aliens to stay in our country.

We did exactly that in 1986. At the time we thought we'd be legalizing about 3 million illigals. Instead, millions more flooded in and we ended up legalizing about 6 million.
Since then, it's created a draw for many more new illegals who all assume that if they simply break our laws long enough, they too will get legalized. Now we have at least 12 million (some say it's as high as 38 million). If we legalize them now, it will only turn out the same way, with millions more flooding in before and after.
Why should we reward those who ignore our immigration laws? It only encourages more people do the same in the future.
We heard all the same reasoning back in the 80's that we're hearing now. I'm sure your teacher left that part out, though.

Absolutely, positively in no way should illegals be given legal status. Millions of other immigrants have gone through the normal and legal process. Why can't illegals do the same?? If we give illegals legal status, it is a slap in the face of not only those immigrants who have gone through the legal process but to those who are waiting for the legal process to go through!!!

I'm not going to give my opinoin on this hugely complex issue, but I have a suggestion. Since the overwhelming majority (see your answers) says 'no', how about writing an essay (assuming that this is the project your teacher has in mind) taking the opposite point of view. Teachers tend to get bored reading the same old arguments in everyone's essay, and if someone comes up with the opposite point of view, they are more likely to give it a good grade, whatever their personal point of view. So, even if you think 'no', then try writing from a 'yes' point of view, just to be different and get the teacher's attention (and hopefully a better grade!) There are plenty of arguments for the 'yes' point of view, just do some research. Also I'd have to advise that in future you always research both sides to any argument and formulate your own opinion based on logic, not emotion.

We already have a path to legal status, but instead they chose to come illegally. So they do not need to be rewarded for criminal behavior.

no they should not be given legal status. that's essentially rewarding them for breaking the law. if they see they can come into our country illegally without any consquences, why would they think that they had to obey our other laws as well?

In no way should they be given legal status. They are here illegally and should be sent back. They have broken our laws and have invasion going on. We owe these people nothing except a one way ticket home.
