Dye doesn't necessarily damage your hair if you do it correctly. You have to add back what is taken out of the hair shaft when you dye it. For example, every few weeks, I do a hot oil treatment or a "restore" product. It is amazing what this does. I personally think that age has more to do with damage than anything else. My hair is thinning because I will soon be 65. My mom's hair did the same thing but at 70 it started growing thick again. DNA has much to do with it.
Go figure!

I even have been loss of life for 20 yrs. bc I have been given gray ahead. I do salon and now and back at homestead. My hair is appealing and that is because of the fact of better high quality products and good shampoo and conditioner. that's what i take advantage of: Catwalk Honey & Oatmeal shampoo & conditioner --- it has protein to repair the hair and the hair is gentle & silky after conditioning. If i choose greater of a deeper conditioner & restructurer, i take advantage of Aveda injury therapy. For drugstore moisturizer, I even have used John Frieda amazing Brunette - works great yet smells perfumey - i take advantage of that very not often. The jury is out approximately hair dye and ailment or maximum cancers. some say to stick with lighter hues - although that is relatively unknown.

Depends on the colour, dyeing the hair bleach blonde all the time worsens it by making it brittle and snaps easily.
Ill always dye my hair. I have since I was 12 or 13. Anyway, I stick to colours that suit me, like black, reds, and blondes. The blonde I use is a caramel, but right now its a liiiiightt sand blonde. Hmm
If your straightening the hair use heat protection, and for coloured hair use colour protection shampoo's and conditioner's with NO sulfate.

It can make your hair dry, brittle and break off or fall out. The harsh chemicals are thought to be absorbed through the scalp and then to the brain or blood stream that can cause possible cancer.
I used the store bought well known brands for only 3 years when my hair (long to my waist) broke off near my scalp. I was shocked!
I switched to natural hair color; Herba Tint and love it. Usually you can find it in health food stores. They do have a toll free number too.
One thing, if you don't have to dye your hair, don't.

The only real long term effect it has, is when you keep coloring over and over the hair gets carotinized which makes it very hard to get out,not impossible just hard, and unless your allergic its completely safe.

i have just read three articles on the net about hair colouring and not one have mentioned anything about the damage done to your hair. i have heard stories about hair dropping out, but that is not caused by hair colouring. just carry on and do not worry to much i am sure you look great anyway.

Long-term, it will make the hair you have brittle, but it will have no effect on new growth. The hair outside your head is already dead!
