The EIC is based upon your filing status and income. There is no meaningful average.

Last year (2006 tax returns), it ranged from zero to $ 2747 depending on your income. As your income goes up from zero, the credit increases up to a point, then begins to decrease as your income rises above that point. If you made $ 8050 you would get the maximum credit. If you made over $ 16,849 it is completely phased out.

For 2007 returns the amount and income ranges will change.

Anywhere from zero to $2747 depending on filing status, and amount and source of income. If you are wondering what YOU would get, you'll have to provide that information.
