I am looking for a cat litter that controls odor and causes little or no dust. The dust is terrible for my allergies and it stays in the carpet forever. I was thinking about trying that feline pine but I hear that it smells like rotting garbage.

The pine litter will be best for you! I use it and it doesnt smell that bad. Just by a candle or air freshener to put near it so you cant smell it. Most other litters are very dusty, and the ones that arent are just like little rocks that do no absorbing. Definitely go with the Feline Pine.

Dr. Elsey's Ultra Precious Cat litter.
They're not lying when they say that it's a 99.9% dust free medium grain clay. I had no dust problems whatsoever and I really tried to make some! It clumps and is also perfect for multi-cat families and those cat owners with sifting or mechanical litter boxes.

Another good surprise -- it's all natural, so there is no synthetic deoderizers or scents. However, the odor control is superior. Our litter box never smells (but be sure to scoop everyday, of course). I buy it at Petsmart but I'm sure it's available in other places.

Our cat always prefers this litter because it's natural texture encourages cats to use the litterbox.

I love the "Worlds Best litter" it has no smell or dust. There is some tracking by my two cats outside the box. But having no smell is great! Unfortunately, my one cat is allergic to corn and this is a corn based product, so it is back to heavy dusty clay for me....

Be careful with allergies with the pine litter because I am not sure if it contains molds. The litter I use is Scoop Away and I find very little dust, I just wash my hands after I clean it and I gentle fill the box outside.

there is a brand called cedarific(made for cats) that looks like cedar chips for a hamster cage. it traps in all the amonia and you wont smell it until you empty the litter box. some minor dust, but not like regular litter. i didnt like the feline pine because it is a bunch of pellets and my cats hated it.

Try scoop away I have used it for some time now and it works great or get an automatic catbox cleaner. It may cost you a little but it cleans to litter box each time ths cat uses it and all you have to do is dump out the box that the waste is put in and there is not dust.
