Not exactly. You can take a part of a liver and transplant it to another person and it will grow to full size. However, you cant remove one and expect to grow another.

It all depends on the circumstances.
People who have a disease of the liver,
like cirrhosis...though the liver tries to
regenerate the cells, it does so in a way
that the liver still is not able to function well
and the cells die off from scar tissue forming and not letting oxygen and nourishment to the cells that are healthy and
they die also. It is a progressive disease
until it consumes the whole liver.

However, those who give part of their liver
to another patient, the liver can regenerate
cells and the liver will eventually be the same size it was before.

Someone who has an injury due to blunt
trauma, like part of it being injured or cut...can generate new cells and the liver
can heal.

There has to be a certain amount of
the liver left to regenerate itself. This
is because the body requires the liver
to do all of it 500 or more functions during
this time to keep the body healthy and well...
if there isn't enough of the liver cells to do
this, then liver failure is very likely and the
patient can die.

To an extent, yes.

The liver has the remarkable ability to regenerate. It's the only organ in your body that is capable of doing so. However, there is a limit.

The liver can come back from an injury with no obvious effects. If a lobe is removed (not the entire liver, mind you), the liver can regro the missing lobe to a fully functional organ. Howver, if a person's liver is removed, there had better be a new one sitting in a cooler next to the operating table. It is not possible for a liver to regrow once it has been removed.

My liver was once ruptured in a car accident. Following emergency surgery to close the rupture, over time it repaired itself...and is once again fully functional.

Liver injuries are most common in car accidents and incidents that involve blunt trauma to the abdomen. Disease (such as hepatitis) can also cause a liver to fail or become impaired.

Amazing organ.

Yes, livers can regrow themselves back if part of them is removed. I had half of my liver cut off in an emergency op. and it's back to it's full size. You can't remove one and have another one grow back . That won't happen .
