We used to use lit candles as a training tool, the object was to put out the flame with a punch or strike without touching the candle or the flame. It was great for training the "snap" into the techniques.

The students loved it (only did it in seniors of course).

Have you tried this?

Do you have any other interesting training techniques you'd like to share ?

Yes easiest way is to use back fist the snap is built in.MAS OYAMA did a test with this method.Had a student do the candle technique for one year while another punched the makiwara getting big calloused knuckles .At the end of the year the student who did the candle technique could break more boards with a punch than the student who only punched the makiwara. There is a lot more to it than simply punching and snapping it.

Hang a balloon or peice of sheet paper from a string and throw rapid punches at it while you move around. The ballon or paper will fly around madly .The idea is to hit the target with every punch no pauses between punches and they have to be power punches no flicks.Great for hand eye coordination.

Another "trick" way is to execute your punch and a little before the full execution you press upward in a rising motion.

This can really be done though. You have to understand Fajing, which is recoiling energy.
