This idea that if I don't believe in Jesus I will go to hell makes no sense to me. According to the bible God created everything in the universe, knows everything that has happened and will happen, and gave us free will. It also says that God is perfect and cannot sin. If God is perfect and he created me, and he knows I do not believe in him, but he also knew before he created me that I would not believe in him, why did he create me in the first place? Where's the free will, because if God knows everything is going to happen before it happens, that means everything is predestined and this whole 'test' doesn't make sense. WHY WOULD THE ALL KNOWING, ALL PERFECT GOD, CREATE HUMANS when he already knows whats going to happen? If he is so loving why would he create something that he already knows will go to Hell before he even created it? If he knows whats going to happen in the first place you can only sumize he is not perfect because he created imperfect things.

What I find funny is how Christians answer with quotes out of the bible. It just goes to show that they can't formulate their own opinions, can't think for themselves, and need a guidebook for life. They're the same people who read the self help books. It all makes sense to me now. Everytime I try to start an intelligent conversation I get these people who whip out some scripture written over 2000 years ago and that makes them feel wise? Why don't you try to come up with something yourself? Utilize your alleged free will once in a while.

By the way, if we cannot fathom God and cannot understand his ways, then why do christians always try to explain his ways to me? Seriously, if you guys didn't contradict yourself so much, just like your bible does, then you just might make sense.

So Father K has already told you that the reason you don't get it is because you're not "saved." Touche! I guess that's why I don't get it either.
Wow - and several other people are saying the same thing. Always the same rap - God's ways are higher than our ways, and that's why, to our feeble human intellect, Christianity appears to be sheer psychopathy and superstition.
It seems to me that God is being rather hard on the people who are actually capable of making use of the excellent rational and critical faculties with which He endowed us.
"We can't figure out God if we tried, we're merely human," etc etc. So we, as mere humans, put our "faith" in the handed-down sentiments of other "mere humans" who lived thousands of years ago, on the pretense that they were "inspired by God." I can't understand why people don't see the gaping hole in that logic.
Yeah, thumb me down, I'm used to it. Truth hurts.

You assume that Christianity is all about an afterlife--Heaven and Hell. To be perfectly honest, a lot of Christians seem to think that's the most important thing about Christianity--what happens to them after they die. It's rather like a theological equivalent of "it's all about me." And, if that's all there is, the "debate" is rather sterile, since what happens after death is something over which we are not likely to have much control.
However, as a practicing Christian (and I'm going to keep practicing until I get it right), I don't think "it's all about me." I think it's all about us. The Christian Scriptures, as the saying goes, were written in the shadow of the cross, and too many Christians focus on the Passion and Resurrection, while paying scant attention to what Jesus taught both by his words and his way of life. He associated with the socially marginalized, taught tolerance, didn't have much time for religious hypocrisy, wasn't judgmental, thought people should be responsible for the consequences of their actions--both good and bad, and was courageous both physically and morally. He taught that we're all related as part of Creation and have an obligation to care for one another. Leave Heaven, Hell and religious ceremonies out of it. The message makes sense not because it's a series of quotes from the Bible, but because it a good way to live. (N.B. -- not one quote from scripture or any other religious authority. Some of us do think for ourselves.)
And, if you don't believe in G-d, Heaven, Hell, predestination, postmortem judgment, penal substitution and the rest, why worry about it?
Grace be unto you and peace.

I am a Christian and I also stumbled upon this objection. But the fact that God allows you to have free will even knowing you will choose incorrectly doesn't necessarily mean any of the things you are concluding. basically, you have reached a opint in knowledge where a lot of these metaphors break down. I would highly recommend to you The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley. If religion ever appeals to you, it will have to be mystical.
Happy journeys!

Christianity spells out very little in the true nature of reality. Christianity, the Bible, has but a small handful; of authors whom act as witnesses to Christ and his events; there are literaly Hundreds of written attestments to Jesus-Christ and the events surrounding his acts, yet, those attestments never made there way into the "Bible" as the Vatican had visions of thier own "truth".
My Point, Christianity composed ony about 1% of the "truths" they wished the workd to see; other religions and Christain witnessess are the other 99%.
My point is the "Christian" view of the true nature of reality is a Very Narrow one and not altogether, "all the facts".

Am I missing something here....? We ALL (babies, people who never heard of the bible, etc) deserve to go to hell because a magical talking snake convinced one woman thousands of years ago to eat one fruit? Isn't that just a little unfair? And what the hell was wrong with eating the fruit anyway? Whats wrong with knowledge of good and evil? If Adam and Eve couldn't comprehend evil, how could they understand that eating the fruit was wrong? Hopefully your question was just a really bizarre joke....

It is really quite simple. Just because God knows what you are going to do does not mean he makes you do the actions. You still have the choice. The choice is not predestined, he only knows because he has already seen what you chose. The reason you have said choice is because God loves you. If you did not have a choice then you would only be a robot that responds as it is told. He shows his love for us by allowing us to reject him. Every rejection breaks his heart but he shows his love again and again by allowing us the choice.

Your idea of Christianity doesn't make any sense because it based on a series of assumptions that are passed around the laity in Protestant churches. If you take a couple of years and study actual Christian theology, it will make a lot more sense to you. You still may not believe it, but at least you will understand it.

We cannot figure out God if we tried. We are merely humans, he gave us our brain, he did not make us to know everything. God makes all good and bad to work for HIS plan. We cannot say 'if I were god, i'd......' or ' but how can god.......?' we cannot fathom him nor try to be him. You go to Hell because of your sin, Jesus washes away your sin. without him your sins stay.God doesn't have time. He dwells in the past, present and future, he does not program us like robots and just because he knew the outcome that didn't stop him from letting you still live to choose.

The devil (the god of this world) has blinded the minds of the lost that you can not believe the Gospel. But you break that blindness by Praying that God have Mercy on you and forgive your sins. It is by Faith that we recieve Salvation.
Please read these Scriptures and get your Bible and read.
2 Corinthians 4:3-5 (King James Version)
3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
Romans 10:10-15 (King James Version)
10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
God Bless You is my Prayer!
