Well, I think so and yet, we've been together for over 20 years and sometimes there isn't anything new to say and, er, yes, we do read at the table. But never ever if there's anyone else here. In answer to your question .. yes, it is!

Yes! Yes! YES!!! Or talk on the phone or play gameboy. I cant stand to see a family eating together and they are all doing someting else than talking to each OTHER! Then, it never fails, they start leaving the table one by one to go be even more isolated. Grr!!

It is rude, unless you read the actual table. You can do this by pasting your news paper (after ironing it in the morning) to the said le table. That was you are no longer being rude and can read whilst partaking in tiffin.

Hello dear lady
I like your new hat
I know you asked for fun
not for a spat

I don't know why
they've given such 'tude
Unless you ask if they mind
you know that it's rude

You're a smart lady
I'd say read if you asked
But if you didn't
you already know that it's crass

So read all you want
but don't let it go to your head
Put the book away
if you call me to bed ;-)

If there are other people there, it would be more appropriate to talk to them...but sometimes my daughter and I both read while we eat....but we make sure to talk alot over the course of the day, so it's not like we are ignoring each other.

Ofcourse it is, and you know that or you would not ask. If you are alone you can do whatever, if you are with other people you have to converse and not sit there and read a book. Silly question.
