Just curious.

And Christians --- for shame when we do this. We shame the name of Christ when we step out of unity and give nonbelievers further ammunition against us.

hey kl,
I think we Protestants slam catholics more. This is unfortunate. I think everyone slams everyone from time to time. Terrible huh? At any rate, we need to stop doing that.

I'm somewhat of a lapsed catholic, slowly coming back to my faith after a few years away. Until recently, I knew little about other Christian denominations and have been looking at what their teachings and beliefs are. This has included many discussions with friends who label themselves simply as "Christian". In these discussions and visits to other churches (mostly non-denominational, protestant nature), I have been shocked at the amount of bad-talk that there is about the Catholic church. In coming here to Yahoo answers recently, I have noticed that there are a lot of misconceptions and flat out dislike for the Catholic faith, so I'd say that protestants seem to slam the Catholics. Whereas, Catholics seem to have very level headed discussions and don't put down other's beliefs. I was taught as a Catholic not to "hate". I'm inclinded to say that other faiths seem to "hate" the Catholic church, which is not very "Christian" like.

I'm not Catholic, but on R&S, I have noticed that Protestants slam Catholics way more than Catholics slam them.

I agree with you - we shame the name of Christ when we step out of unity.

Definitely more Protestants bashing Catholicism than vice versa.

In general, it appears that in the ongoing Catholic vs. Protestant dialog/dispute/debate, when highlighting differences, Protestants tend to be anti-Catholic, rather than pro-Protestant, in emphasis, whereas Catholics seem to be pro-Catholic more than anti-Protestant. It's a matter of emphasis, but I think it's fairly consistent.

You are absolutely wrong. Christians should stand up against the distortion of Christianity. There is absolutely no precedent for the idea that all "Christians" should present a united front. There is no ontological connection between the different factions of Christianity. There is no more reason for one group to fall in line with another group than there is for a Christian denomination to fall in line with the Muslims. The Bilble constantly tells Christians to take a stand for the traditions that have been handed down in the Church, and to oppose the corruption of Christian doctrine.

Catholics seem to get a lot more crap from Protestants. I could be wrong. I'm an atheist, but as an ex-Catholic, I could hardly be considered an impartial observer. Either way though, I am surprised by the outright hatred expressed for Catholics by other Christians.

I seek to have dialog with Roman Catholics on theology and do not seek to attack them or slam them. Protestants have serious issues with the Roman Catholic theology. Roman Catholic Church denies the essential doctrines of sola scripture and sola fide.

I consider it defense of the faith, and not "slamming", unless we consider Jesus, Paul, and Peter "slammers".

Recognizing our doctrinal differences, when we disagree with others, we should state our position in a respectful manner.

Try this on for size... you're all catholic! How's that feel? If I want to make a better mousetrap, I don't use the same plans as the other guy and that's what protestants did when they utilize the EXACT SAME BIBLE as the catholics.

Statistically it seems that Catholics are more slammed than the opposite.

Interesting view from outside.

i've seen way more anti catholic questions and answers than the other way around. i'm not on here 24-7 though, so maybe sometimes it's that way. i don't use it as ammunition against anyone, it just proves what i already knew.
