No. You pay state sales tax when you purchase the car. Tag costs are fixed and vary from car to car. For example my Jeep runs around $50 for tags while my motor home runs around $150.

tax when you BUY it based on cost/value - but tags/registration is based on weight of the vehicle, and age.

YOU WILL BE PAYING THE SAME AS YOU DID THE PRIOR YEAR WHEN YOU GO IN FOR THE NEW LICENSE TAG.

THE NEW LAW IS WHEN YOU BUY A USED VEHICLE AND THEN THEY WILL DETERMINE THE VALUE OF IT.

I dont know about Texas... but in Verginia this is true... so its entirely possible.
