Has he tried coal tar or salicylic acid dandruff shampoos? There is also Nizoral Shampoo, which is over the counter. If he is getting it just during the winter, he might also have a dry scalp, and so, using a scalp moisturizer might help.

In the modern world how you look is often equated with how you feel, and with so many people suffering from dandruff there's no surprise that many are demanding a cure. Sadly there is no cure because dandruff is a natural process of the body and thus can't be cured, BUT it can be controlled and there are two paths to achieve this. The first is using anti-dandruff shampoos like Head & Shoulders, some of these promise cures but don't be suckered in, they can ONLY CONTROL IT, and some are very effective at doing so, and I believe Head & Shoulders to be one of those shampoos. The only problem with ant-dandruff shampoos is that they usually cost a lot of money and are full of chemicals, so you may be able to control your dandruff but it may leave you with an unhealthy scalp. The second path is home remedies for dandruff, home remedies are great because they are cheaper on your pocket and you have full control over what chemicals are being used in the home remedy. My favourite natural oils are tea tree and lime. Simply dab either one of those over your scalp and leave for half an hour, then shampoo you hair like usual and repeat this everyday for a month. I promise that you will see results and will know that you are doing it the healthy and cheap way. There are many home remedies for dandruff out there, so I suggest experimenting with different kinds until you find one that works for you.

A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water. More simple remedies for dandruff at http://usefulinfo-dandruff.blogspot.com/
