I am almost finished reading The Satanic Bible, and I hope I don't offend you, but it seems to be pretty much atheistic to me.
If the Satanistist puts the individual in place of god, recognizing the full potential of what humans can do on their own, doesn't that pretty much mean you don't believe in a god, and are, therefore, just an atheist?
Can you please enlighten me more as to what you believe?

P.S. If you are not familiar with this, please don't bring ignorance here, as that doesn't help the education process much....

I believe that LaVey took on the name 'Satanist' primarily because his beliefs were the opposite of Christianity, not because of a need to worship Satan.

Its similar to people on this board taking on the 'Vile Temptress' name. They aren't trying to temp people, they are just living their lives, but loving Christians feel the need to denegrate them.

LaVay knew this and did exactly the same thing as the VTs did here. He took the name and wore it with pride, because names don't have power when they are not based in truth.

my understanding of laveyan satanists (based on my r&s friends) they are atheists, they just call themselves satanists based on the teachings and concepts of that book...

Devil worshippers are a different group entirely...

it is an atheistic belief system yes
they have no deities
and Satan is seen as a symbolism of self

My uncle used to live next doof to Anton LaVey's Church of Satan

it was creepy...just a black house with a dead yard
