My boyfriend and I are having a bit of trouble when it comes to chores and housework. He will tell me that he will "do something" but nothing gets done (i.e. laundry, cleaning up dishes). I don't want to be nagging him but I cannot do all the housework alone. We both work 40-45 hrs a week, which only leaves weekends to get the chores done but he only wants to lay around weekends, claiming "he works a lot" as his excuse. How do you motivate the unmotivated?

Stop doing everything for him. Like when you do laundry do yours only. Leave his alone. When he stops you stop. It can get frustrating for a while but you have to stick to it for a quick minute to make your point. When he asks why he has no laundry or the dishes are dirty then tell him "I work all week long I'm tired". I had to do it and believe me it worked. Unless he is a complete idiot or a slob then he will understand

You have to tell him to stop with the laziness, DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!! Or you could try some reward system or even a punishment system. You know, if you don't do this, you're not getting anything back from me, or something like that. Talk to the guy too and tell him that he has to help out around the house because being a couple and living together is 50/50 work.

he works hard you work the same hours he does and then your expected to clean up after him all week and weekends to? HA! I'd tell him Get off his butt and do something or he would find his self single real quick. And I'm a guy. if you both live there you share the responsibility.

You write down the list of chores and divide them... give him his list.. if there a particular item he doesn't like, he can TRADE for something else....

Tell him you "work a lot" too, but if you're going to do all the work, then you might as well have the place to yourself....

sorry you have a sh*tty "man".

I suggest reading Dr. Laura's "10 things women do to mess up their lives"
Maybe that will help you save yourself.
Then if you want to be stubborn
Read "the proper care and feeding of husbands"

when he does something good (anything) give him a treat. That will make him want to do whatever he did again.
