people assume that I believe the statement? Sometimes I ask things that others put as an answer to a question. Like the Catholic whore thing. I am asking for input on that statement, not saying I agree or believe it. just thought that people would answer the question, not bash me and say I'm horrible! I guess I need to sneek into my question are that I don't necessarily believe this, but heard it elsewhere and am looking for input?

You have to expect this from people especially complete strangers. People can be offended if you insult their favorite clor of jellow. Ask someone you know instead.

Whew, that's a relief. You really are a human being (and I'm not being sarcastic -- I really AM relieved that the stuff you posted didn't come out of your own head). Yes, it would be a *very* good idea when posting something potentially inflammatory (and that certainly fit the bill) from another source to make it clear that it's not necessarily your own opinion. Actually naming or providing a link to the source, if available, is also immensely helpful.

Not knowing this, of course, I have made a few pointed comments in your direction. So have others. The material you quoted is rather horrible, dear; I mean, something that turns the Donner party plight into an anti-Catholic joke is a bit unseemly at the least. It "bashed" Catholics in very ugly terms. And so it shouldn't be hard to understand why, if people thought this was your opinion, you experienced a bit of bashing in return.

Thank you, though, for clarifying.

Perhaps it can be rectified by a more-precise phrasing of the question. Not having seen (that I recall) any of your questions, this is only a guess, but HOW you phrase something has a great deal to do with WHAT people perceive, and in this area, people seem to be on the lookout for something to disagree with.

It's all in the wording, babe. Read it after you write it and make sure you are clear, or sign off with "Atheist".
I would say you could have a name that gives it away, like mine, but I still get some confused morons who don't even notice that...

BTW, without reading any of your other questions, I still don't know which side of the fence you're on by reading just this one. All of mine are kind of blatantly anti-religious, so I don't have that problem either...

This is all the time in the Religion category. Atheists only chance to say something and it's usually so negative. I would always be in Religion and Spirituality but those people need to amuse themselves. I will not be put through that ignorance, whatever!

Well, what if you asked:

"Why are the Jews so greedy"

Would we be wrong to infer anti-Semitism? Perhaps, but it's a safe bet. If you want to ask a question without implication, parse your statement. Ask what you mean, unambiguously. Do not assume that people will approach a question without preconcieved notions, this is just silly, we all have them.

No, you need to actually ask a question, not put a statement there and add a question mark

Perhaps you have not made yourself clear and it would be a good thing to state that you do not necessarily believe it. I think you answered your own question!

With the way you asked your question, why are you surprised that people didn't like it... or you. I found most of the answers quite mild in fact.

When you look at my avatar, do you assume that I have brown hair? Unless you state something to the contrary in your "question" people will assume anything.
