paperbac just gave you the jewish method,I have googled the muslim method for you,but I assume since muslims can eat kosher meat,it must be an acceptable way of slaughtering to them with some personalization(facing Mecca, naming Allah when doing it,and referring to Ishmael as the son of Abraham)

I only know of Judaism and Christianity having specific ways of slaughtering an animal, and the methods are extremely similar, in fact the method isn't really the difference who slaughters it is the difference for the Jews (only Jews are able to slaughter it ) and I think a prayer has to be said on it for the Muslims but to some Muslims that isn't a big deal.
The way to slaughter a animal is to cut the artery in the neck leading to the brain so no more blood travels to the brain, and all the blood empties the animal quickly, leading to a quick and painless death. This only works in clean animals (animals that Jews can eat) because other animals have a connecting artery below their neck.
There are definitely rules on how sharp the knife has to be and that cutting the artery has to be done in one cut but that is the extreme logistics.

The Islamic way is to lay the animal on it's side with it's face towards Mecca wherever you are and slaughtering it with a very sharp knife and saying (In the name of God & God is great)(Allahu akbar) , and make sure all the blood comes out. This method has been proven scientifically is the best method .

Jews have kosher meat, Muslims have halal.
As Jews, we are only meant to eat the meat of an animal that has been killed with the MINIMUM pain, and with all the blood having drained out. We are not supposed to eat any animal that has died of disease.
The regulations are pretty strict, which is why Muslims can eat kosher meat, but Jews can't eat halal.

- just to clarify the answer directly beneath mine; Christians don't follow the same rules, they don't eat kosher. Jesus did, but Christians don't. Go figure :)
