how is it being a hypocrite?

Question-since when has asking questions and trying to get people to learn things for themselves been considered pushing your beliefs down someone's throat.Is it wrong to try to get people to think and research things instead of following blindly.The atheist that i know and many of them on this site are not pushing their views on anyone.They seem to ask questions or they just give their views on religion.I haven't seen many questions or answers on here where there is an atheist telling you not to believe in god,or to abandon your faith,or give up on your god.What i have seen is they ask questions about things that don't make sense and try to get you to think about them logically.On the other side,i've seen many religious people saying things like those who dont believe are fools and will burn,or you are blind and need god to open your eyes,or passages from a book saying that we are doomed and they are heaven bound.So who is really being the hypocrite and trying to force beliefs.

My guess is many religious people, mostly the fundamentalists or zealots, feel entitled to try and convert people because they believe they are instructed and empowered by what they consider to be the infallible word of God who has told people to "spread the word." This, by its nature, necessitates trying to shove their beliefs down other peoples' throats, however gently. None of them see any problem with the fact that when they tell other's they will burn in hell, or they won't go to heaven, etc... they are in fact in violation of the teachings of their god. God instructs people not to judge because it is his place alone to do so, and that they have no way of knowing for sure what God will do.

They become highly offended when someone challenges anything they believe because, after all, these beliefs were forged by the Almighty himself, and how dare anyone question this! Logic, reason, and curiosity about the natural world have no place in their lives beyond what will not conflict with their rigid unquestioning belief system.

All this is not to say that atheists and agnostics don't ask antagonizing questions skillfully phrased in such a way as to push the buttons of religious nuts. Well, okay, it doesn't take much skill to antagonize a religious fundamentalist. They're usually looking for a fight anyway.

i completely agree... anytime you try to explain why you are an atheist to someone they get completely pissed off at you and don't seem to listen to what you have to say even if it may be true.. when i say that i am an atheist and back up what i say they try to think i am trying to convert them which is completely false... i am merely stating what i believe and i know everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.... some people ask me how something happened etc. and when i answer they hear what say but they dont listen to what i have to say and they try to get in an argument with me... if you don't want to get mad..... then don't ask me what i think.. if you ahve asked me a question about my religion and got made the first time dont ask me another one because you know how i will answer.... i tihnk people who do get mad sort of realize that they cannot answer.. they follow blindly as u stated and when they answer they just say "i have faith".... but faith in what if you read the bible it is full of flaws that you truly cannot put faith in and whenever u question someone they always just say i have faith and you don't.. RIGHT i don't i have faith in something that you nor i can prove is there.. the immediate impression given when i say i am atheist is that i worship the devil and i will go to hell which could not be further from the truth... so the next time someone says i am pushing my beliefs down someone's throat take a look at yourself before u say it!

I guess we are tired of hearing and seein gour God bashed and made fun of. Many of the answers on here to God statements or questions are people who believe the teachings of Jesus and love folks enough to tell them the truth in hopes they will believe it. In the Christian faith, hell is a real place and Jesus tells us that those who do not believe in Him will end up there for an eternity. As a Christian pastor, I believe this as well and it breaks my heart when my Lord is bashed and it breaks my heart that so many do not know Jesus who offers mercy and grace as a free gift, since He willingly paid the price for our sins.
So, most people quote Scripture out of love and wanting none to perish. And, we tend to want to stick up for our Lord . We can be offensive as we are human and fall short. Hopefully we do not try to force our beliefs but share them because of love for others.

I enjoy reading others points of view, no matter what it is. You never know where you'll find a little enlightenment. It's all good, everyone just has a different way of expressing themselves on any given day. A good debate is worth it's weight, and I must say I enjoy atheist's humor. : )

It is clear from this post that you CANNOT have read all the questions and exceedingly rude, intolerant, provincial, and outright BIGOTED comments atheists make here CONSISTENTLY AND CONSTANTLY against Christians.

have no choice but to say you are right alot of religious people want to shove their religion down non believers throats I personally think that no one is being a hypocrite I do think that some religious people (mainly christians) need to stop saying that we will burn in hell for not believing in their beliefs I never see an atheist say that people need to stop believing in god...

Well, if I came across a man who was suffereing from fifth degree burns and he told me not to "Play with fire" ... well, I wouldn't call him a hypocrite ... but I'd sure the hell listen to him!!!

When someone "volunteers" a statement, when it was not solicited or asked for, and doesn't shut-up about it, then they are "cramming" their message.
