In small communities, yes. But, at a national level, I don't think it could work. Someone always gets power-hungry.

A society where we all worked together, and shared the work, so that all could benefit?
We all need food, and shelter, and clothes, and transportation. (Or not). Just everyday needs.
Everyone could take a turn working, like say, for two years, and then, sit back and reap the benefits after. Each worker could train his replacement, and then ''retire''
Manufacturing, farming, store retail, policing, medical personnel, fire fighters, everyone caring for each other..
It would be nice, and it could work, except for one thing. Some people are too selfish, and want it all, and to hell with everyone else.
I have often thought that if every one sent one dollar a week, to someone, that person as they reached the top of the list, could pay off all of their debt, own their own home, and start over. But I have never been able to figure out a way for each person to get their turn.
I guess we could send the money to the government each week, and they could send it out to the next person on the list.
That could work.
I mean they send out all of the SS checks each month, with little or no trouble.
And I'll bet we could pay off the National deb,t doing that, too.
Oh well, I guess it could never happen. A dollar. Just one dollar.
But, can you imagine how nice it would be? No worries for anyone
Too bad that human beings are such stinkers, and so selfish, human nature being what it is.

Do you mean pure socialism or communism? Socialist is voluntary, while Communism is intended to be dictatorship in structure. It has been shown that dictatorships will work as long as the dictator is feared. So, with pure communism, it's not a utopia, but a cache structure.

Pure socialism, however, requires "Free Will" and natural charity. So, programs like social security, PUBLIC education, and other socialist programs would need to be voluntary not mandated by a central/state govt.

I do...
the problem with people is the society we live in, none of us here have been brought up in a truly communist society - I think as soon as we get through the first generation who have only known communism (and I don't mean some madman autocratic version)things will be much easier and we'll wonder why we didn't do it sooner....

the local thing is totally wrong, sorry....it can't even work at national level, it has to be international, every single country without exception with one government that has control of all countries...

The principle of all the government systems is good. The problem is they are directed by human beings which usually can be selfish and look for their own interests. The quality of the leaders is the most important thing in any government system.
In Spain they switch from one type of government to other according to their performance.

Nope. And I don't think that human nature is the biggest problem. Free prices communicate information about demand and scarcity to economic actors better than any government bureaucracy ever could.

It sounds super to tenured left wing professors who've by no skill created a product every physique could use or run a company through fact they get greater capacity and compliment. It additionally sounds super to politicians who earnings maximum suitable capacity and administration over wealth and matters in a communist society. If done under the right context, but seeing as you said that we have to look at the human nature of us all, I would say it wouldn't work unless everyone was willing to make it work.
