Sitting here in my dry warm house all comfortable and cosy with no threat whatsoever to my life, I would say that I hope I would give up my seat to someone who has family; a dad, a mum, a child or maybe I'd give it up for an elder or ill person who you know never be able to survive otherwise...

But to give up my seat voluntarily would make me a hero; and heroes are seen as such because they are those rare individuals who go beyond what most would do.

Everyone hopes that if we're faced with a life or death situation we will be heroic; but since few every really are, the odds are slim. I just hope that I'm never tested; and if I am, that I can live up to my own expectations.

MAYBE if I could give the seat to my kid, or something.

Aside from that... I'm taking that seat. Why would I drown so some rich lady can live? The whole thing was avoidable, and the whole 'give the ladies the lifeboats' actually stemmed from a sexist mindset that , in most other situations, held males as superior and women as submissive roles in society.

Well if I was on the Titanic then my decision would be based on the cultural norms of the era. In that time if a man didn't give up his seat for a child or a woman he would be branded a coward and would almost be better off dead. J Bruce Ismay boarded a lifeboat on the Titanic and was haunted by his decision for the rest of his life. He was shunned by society for his actions. Ismay was the managing director of White Star Lines.

I would act like a gentleman and sell my seat on the lifeboat to the highest bidder (no paypal accepted.)
I would then get as close to the ships orchestra as I possibly could.

Just as the ship was going down I would kick the cello player in the cobblers and pinch his instant canoe!

I just feel sorry for the triangle player!

At first I might get on out of fear, but then I might notice an elder or child and his or her parent(s) and offer the seat to them...

A mother or child wanted to get on. But I would just jump and swim or something if that was the case.

i would only do it if a pregnant woman could go in my place (2lives are worth more than one) if a child could go in my place (they have more life to live than me) or if i would be breaking up a family by taking a place on the lifeboat

Thanks for stating that this is a hypothetical question. For a second I thought this was really happeneing.

I would give up my seat to stay on the boat and drown, if someone offered me a million dollars.... oh wait.
