Not at all. There have been many people who have never served overseas at all.
I had 4 tours overseas and 4 tours stateside, in 22 years on active duty.
Never really thought about it before.

No, I did 20 years int he Air force and was only station overseas once and I volunteered for the assignment. You may do deployments but you may may get away on your initial tour of never seeing overseas on a permanent duty status.

No you don't have to go overseas every tour. My father did 20 years in the Atmy, and of the 20 years, he went overseas twice; both times to Vietnam, the 2nd tour of Vietnam, he volunteered to go.

I volunteered for Korea too - to get off of Fort Jackson. Got stuck at Fort Jackson and thought they'd never let me leave. Even after volunteering for Korea, I left FJSC and went to Charlotte NC to the MEPS. You don't always get what you ask for. âº
Some people seem to wind up overseas for their entire career, others don't seem to ever leave one or two stateside places. It's a matter of the needs of the service and sometimes the luck of the draw.

Not sure what you mean in the militray you are guranteed at least 1 overseas tour maybe 2 this may be Alaska,Germany, Hawaii in a regualr world but of course there's Iraq and you really have no choice if you get orders to go there unless you sick or refuse to for which they can kick you or maybe put you in jail not sure. Also depends on your job in the military and what branch your in.

Not necessarily . . . but why dismiss it out of hand? I've had a wonderful time at both OCONUS posts I've been to.
