Swelling and pain at the hip joint is most definitely NOT caused by a kidney or bladder infection. An infected kidney can cause puffiness from fluid retention, but there would still be other symptoms from a UTI, and the puffiness wouldn't cause pain. Something doesn't make sense about this.

No it doesn't sound like the symptoms of UTI. Of course she could very well have one but wouldn't a urinalysis test be needed to determine this for sure? Is she scheduled for this test? How about having her make an appointment with her primary care provider or even her ortho surgeon to have the hip looked at? If she has a hip replacement, the cause of the hip swelling and pain need to be investigated.

Wow. I would think she would need to be examined, in case there is any chance there is something wrong with her implant!!
