The concept of "honor killing" continues to hold sway on the Muslim World, despite 100 years of "women's lib" in the Western World. This event is not surprising.
I guess, since we aren't allowed to judge whether this is ok or not (you know, it IS a different culture and religion and all) then we'll just have to allow the family time to grieve before they get back to living normal lives.
Since it's Canada, any charges against the father would be tantamount to "hate speech" because they would be critical of Islam, and we know such criticism isn't allowed. Don't expect any action by the Canadian government once they realize this.

One cannot seriously expect to raise their family under a strict cultural regime in an area where that culture is not supported by the society.
If one moves to an area where the society has different rules, and different norms, they had better damn well know their children are going to want to fit in to that society.
He has no one to blame but himself for either a.) Being too strict. b.) Not allowing his daughter to take her religious burden upon herself or c.) not moving away when it came to his attention that the culture of his new location was having an impact on the way he wanted her to grow up.
Removed example: Your friend smokes. You don't allow smoking in your house. Your friend comes over and tries to light up.
a.) You can allow it, which will invite it to happen again. [Not the a wise choice, but easy.]
b.) They can choose to not smoke until they leave. [Best choice for the relationship]
c.) You can tell them to go smoke outside. [They can come back when they're done... although in terms of an analogy, this one doesn't really work on this kind of a long term scale...]
It's very sad, and he should face the full punishment of his local laws without consideration of his religious reasoning. If anything, it could be considered a hate crime.

That is a horrible story. I can only hope that Muslims in the west will speak out against this action.
Not to distract from the main point, but did anyone else catch this "She just wanted to dress like us, just like a normal person." That is a little bit of a bigoted remark. I guess Muslims who wear traditional clothes are not normal people.

What proof was there that she got murdered for not wearing the hijaab? Islam is not to be forced upon anyone. Allah has given us all a choice and it's up to the individual. You can't really go with what the media tells you, cause they will only try and make islam look bad.

Yes, very sad indeed. For any man to murder his own daughter.
Here are other headlines around the world;

Daniela Dawes was given the good behaviour bond for the manslaughter of her 10-year-old son Jason
2)VISTA — A 25-year-old mother of three was sentenced Sept. 26 by a Vista Superior Court to three years in prison for her involvement in the death of her newborn son who was found in a garbage can near her Vista home.
3)A 33-year-old mother killed her toddler son by drowning him on a west Wales beach. The body of her son Jordan was found floating in a rock pool at Coppet Hall beach.

It is just more proof of what they are like.
And they think it's justified.
No one can deny, after the recent things we've all heard of, that Islam is not violent.
If they do that to their own, if they gain control, they would certainly do it to those they do not know.
This is forced behavior, forced religion.

Markie,
It is not necessary to place your or my values above other's religious beliefs. Their society has a different belief than ours does. Please delete this question and allow some positive questions and answers to take place here. Have a great week.
Thanks,
