I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the antibiotic Metronidazole? It is commonly prescribed for bacterial infections in the stomache, or pelivs. I recently was prescribed it because I was having very bad pains in my lower side and until the results of my screening come back from the ER doctor they told me to take this as a precaution. My question is regarding the fact that I was told not to mix any amount of alcohol with this med. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this. I know its never good to mix alcohol with prescription meds but my company christmas party is in a few days and I wondered if it would be so bad to have a glass of wine. Please answer me seriously this is a legitimate question.

its never good to mix antibodics or any drugs for that mannor. However I have mixed it and had maybe a 1 and i do mean 1 mixed drink here and there my dr. said it was okay. what they mean is drinking heavily and often as long as you dont do that you should be fine. but just be more careful bc it does make you feel more drunk mixing the two. trust me!! I suggest you take a couple hours before eat something and then have a drink. That is a legitiment question bc I asked the same thing to my dr. great minds think alike

RN is absolutely right...the two do NOT mix.

Do NOT drink any alcohol at all until you are completely finished with the course of antibiotics....the WHOLE course.
Also, stopping the antibiotics just for the sake of the party is a bad idea. It only gives the bacteria to replicate and become drug resistant.

Stick with juice, water, coke...whatever...just NO alcohol. It's a bad idea to drink at a company party anyway...many people have done some really stupid things by doing that.

if you check out the above link, you will see that alcohol and metronidazole do NOT mix. Even a small amount can cause severe nausea and vomiting. Suggest you stick with juice at the Christmas party.

I was told that even a little bit of alcohol with it will make you toss your cookies. I did take Communion without thinking and had no problems, but I think you would risk making a fool of yourself to have a glass of wine at the office party. "Gee, how much did SHE have to drink?"
