I am an ex-scientologist and I would say NO.
I think they are fine if you want to take the courses, but if you are looking for a religion then no. They do believe in God but are non-denominational. The Sunday services are very generic and could not piss anyone off. Most scientologists dont change their religion. They just take the courses and say they are whatever their religion was. Scientology is ok with that.
The courses are great. They start out cheap and do go up. The 1-on-1 counseling at the top is a real kicker but its about the same as any other 1on1 counseling costs. But if you have alot to work through then it can cost the same as a small house.
Besides you also have to put up with the kindof "knowledge" that you see posted here all the time from people who get their wisdom from youtube or south park.
You might want to check out some neutral sites such as
http://www.ReligiousTolerance.org
http://www.BeliefNet.com
and I would seriously recommend that you go here and take the Belief-O-Matic -- A personality quiz about your religious and spiritual beliefs. It might be quite helpful in pinning down which religions to look at which match your natural beliefs.

The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.
In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.
Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.

Bad religion. They don't require a belief in God. Their religion is about their belief in Ron Hubbard. Once you are on their mailing list you will receive junk mail from them every day for the rest of your life. It is not a real religion. I don't know how they feel about gays.

Scientology was started by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard on a bet that he couldn't start something new and be so convincing that people actually believe it and follow it.
It was a hoax from the beginning, and only a fool would believe it because that's what Hubbard was looking for in the first place - how many people he could fool.

It is more of a philosophy than it is a real religion. It is centered around a book about the mind called "Dianetics", which I have read twice and find to be really quite fascinating. The problem many people have with this "religion" is that they charge a hefty fee for their "counseling" which is basically a memory regression technique which is designed to relieve one of the effects of past bad experiences. I used to belong to it but had to leave due to the high costs, which could potentially plague you with severe financial problems.

Scientology doesn't have anything to do with God. If you are looking for something with a god then I suggest doing something else.

Living in Clearwater FL, (Scientology home base)
I found that they are robotic, believe in insane things, and yes ALL their money and nice clothes are gone.
(the serious ones would wear a blue suit like L. Ron)
the "religion" would tell you that once you become "clear" you would not be gay anymore.

Scientology is a cult that is only out for your money. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away.
