Windows Vista service pack 1 increases Vista's speed by 15-20 seconds and also backs up more compatibility exspecially for third party developers, more sercurity, support for 3D 10.1, it starts up in half then normal time, and more. It will be releasing early next year in January. Can't wait!!!

Now I have a question.

I have Vista Premium already so when the service pack one comes out how does it affect my computer after download? Does it automatically reinstall the system or something?

Also I already like Vista enough and have no compatibility issues but I want SP1 mainly for more speed.

I read an article about 2 weeks ago that stated that MS Vista SP1 actually had no performance benefit when running MS Office 2007. MS Windows XP SP3 though has a 10% performance increase over MS Windows XP SP2.

The second link that you reference opens with a statement "As mentioned, you won't see a lot of difference in day-to-day Vista performance as a result of installing SP1". So you are excited about a 15-20 second improvement in coming out of hibernation? While it is an improvement, I think most people are looking for real improvement to running their applications. I don't have Vista on a laptop, but I can generally tolerate the wakeup time given it is usually only once or twice a day that I put up with it. I'm looking for better performance to run the applications that I deal with through out the day. At this point, MS Windows XP still has the edge on MS Windows Vista for the MS Windows platform.

Forgot the link...

mstq1989 - A recommended configuration for MS Vista practically is a low end server. The only thing missing is high performance disk (probably a RAID controller too) and multiple network interfaces. I have servers still in operation that require lower system resources than MS Vista.

Always get the service pack.

There is a reason they release it and it has much to do with fixing problems that were found in the original release.

Keep in mind that microsoft has only a few thousand people working on Vista. There are literally BILLIONS of different software and hardware combinations with MILLIONS of people using it. There is no way that the mere thousands of people working for MS can solve all the possible software and hardware incompatibilities.

So they release the Operating system when it is as close to complete as they can. Then they rely on the general population to find and report the rest of the bugs.

Let's not forget how buggy Windows XP was when it first came out. Now it is much more stable and tolerable.

I will try Windows Vista SP1 when it comes out to see if it's really better than XP. I have both XP and Vista but I went back to XP because of the bugs Vista has. I LOVE everything else about Vista. I love vista because of the new and cleaner GUI, nice looking windows with transparency, more secure, better bundled software, better included backgrounds and screensavers, window animations, true high def support for cable and satellite in Media Center, search feature, native DVD playback and burning support, native HD-DVD and Blu-ray playback, supports hybrid hard drives, supports outside LCD screen of new high end laptops, Vista exclusive software, ReadyBoost which allows you to use your USB flash drive or memory card as RAM, and more.

Just ignore those idiots who hate Vista. The only problems it has is hardware incompatibilities (mostly older hardware), software incompatibilities (mostly older software that hasn't been updated), uses a lot of RAM (if you have at least 2GB, then you're fine), has bugs right now (all OS's have bugs. That's why there's updates for them. Wait for SP1 to come out)

its always to your advantage to get the service pack releases sent out by microsoft.

i agree with the general consensus though, vista isn't all that great. xp after service pack 2 was the most stable operating system they've ever had and people liked that aspect.

vista is nice and attractive and all that, but its very resource intensive and buggy. at least with the service packs, the bugs can at least 'begin' to disappear.

if i had vista, i would most certainly get the sp update.

sp1 will barely improve vista by 1-2%. vista will never run as smooth and fast as xp. basically its xp on steroids in terms of graphical user interface. they just made it all purdy lol. i guess the best way to run vista is with a quad core processor, 8 gbs of ram and the latest video card from nvidia, 8800 ultra, but who has that kind of money lol.

If you listen to Razgriz, you might as well get yourself a server computer.
