Was if mentioned din regards to Joseph being the lineage of David and that his home? Was it b/c Mary was conceived before they were married, so that others would not look at the child as illigitimate?

i would say because he thought it was important. remember, luke wasnt writting to the jews, he was writting to a different people group. also,he was a doctor, so naturally was through. he wanted to make sure that this people group he was writing to could understand where and who it was being born and the importance of these. these people wernt Jews who where waiting for the Messiah who was prophesied to come from Bethlehem and be a virgins son.

and when i think of the Christ child, i try often aviod the manger sence, and forsake the steriotype of a golden halo around his head and an oddly tan caucasian appearance, it is notable, that in that part of the world, Jesus probably wasnt a white looking amarican fellow with a bee-gee's beard. he probably had dark skin and a lot of hair at birth, and i always picture him drawing pictures in the sand with a bandage on him knee. (dispite the fact that bandages wernt around then)

anyway, hope i could help :)

If you study the gospels, you will see that Mark was apparently the first written. It is the shortest, and about 92% of it is repeated in both Luke and Matthew. The other two authors then add additional material to Mark. (Of the new material about 20% is found in both Luke and Matthew).

Matthew gives a short version of the birth of Jesus, taking mainly about Joseph because he wanted to establish how through Joseph Jesus was the legal heir to the throne on Israel.

Luke, who unlike Mark and Matthew, did not know Jesus personally, had to rely on the writings of others and the testimony of eye witnesses. It appears that one of those "witnesses" was Mary herself. And she supplied him with lots of additional material on the birth and childhood of Jesus.

The reason it is mention that Jesus was born in Bethelem is because that is where it happened. Luke (and Matthew) were just telling the truth.

I'm going with... because Jesus was born in Bethlehem as the virgin born son of Mary.

When I think of the child Jesus I get the images that I've seen since my childhood of the baby in a manger. I'm sure it was much less glamorous in reality.

Well...maybe it's just in the manner of telling any story. You know, basics...who, what, where, when...

Images of the child Jesus...I would imagine he was very small as a baby, and then grew larger. There isn't much information about him at all until he was a full adult, even if you believe the bible.

Because that's what happened.

The only image that comes to mind is from that painting of Jesus in the temple, teaching the Rabbi's and them all gathered around Him, asking questions.

I think it mentions that because I believe it to be true.

Well, he did come out of her vagina. So it's quite obvious he was her son, no?
