I'm shopping for a family for Christmas and I have no idea what size the girl wears. I picked their name off of a Christmas "shopping" tree. All it says is that the girl is 12 years old. I went to the store and L is size 10/12 and XL is size 14/16, there is no size 12/14. I don't know which size to get her because I'm worried that the 10/12 will be too small and the 14/16 will be too big. WHat size would you get?

Maybe I should clarify- I don't know the little girl, I don't know her family and I have no way to find out. This is a company wide thing at work and I just so happened to pick a "little girl, age 12"

My daughter is 12 years old and a 14/16 fits her quite well. My only grip with clothes these days is the fact that they cut the length too short. So I sometimes buy her a Jr. size S or M. I have even gone as far as buying her an Adult small. Shirts are the best bet for a gift, since pants could be really any size---slim, regular, plus.

I think it's a great idea to get flip flops (as long as she can stand the thing in between her toes LOL...my 7 year old can't!) That way it is something to throw on her feet until you are able to take her yourself to pick out additional shoes. My 7 year old is average, and she wears a 1-2...her sister is two years older and on the short side for her age and wears between 2-4, depending on the shoe. If you get flip flops, you can always find some pretty cheap pairs, so I would suggest getting two different sizes: 2-13 or 13-1 or 1-2. I don't know the exact sizes the darned things come in...(still need to go summer shoe shopping for my girls LOL), but if you get one that's a little too big she can grow into them, and if one pair is too small, you are only out a couple of bucks. Good luck and hope this helps! Enjoy your summer with your step daughter. It sucks when the custodial parent fails to provide them with essentials when they visit the other parent...isn't that part of the child support?! At least she is lucky to have a great dad and stepmom!!

Well I'm 13 and I'm kinda short and I fit in to size 10-12 in kids but I would go with a 14/16 if you don't really know her size then 10/12 size so she can fit into the article of clothing eventually because even if it is to big she will grow into it.

Its nice that your trying to have things ready for her. I'd try some flip flops your sons size or my granddaughters favorite, those ugly crocs with a back strap. You can use w/o the strap if they're to small. My granddaughter has huge feet so i can't guess the right size for you. Mine is almost 11 and wearing womens size 9 shoes. She wore a 2 or so at 7. Good luck. My oldest grand was tiny and wore size 5 clothes for 3 years. She was about the size of your 7 y/o and had little feet. I know what you mean about calling her MOm. I had to deal with that for years. The hardest part about getting married to a man withan ex and kids is not the kids at all. Its having an Ex wife you never expected to have. Who would have thought you'd have an ex wife, huh? She is just as much your problem as your husbands, right? Does she make your daughter feel like she should hate you because you're not her "real Mommy"? Mine did but it was worth the pain. My two kids by marriage are my kids in every way but blood. They never called me Mom but they do introduce me as thier mother. Plus i got to have lots more grand kids that way. Those kids are also my grands in every way. Good luck, Mom #2. You'll get it right and your step daughter will grow up to remember with love all you have done for her.

When I was 12 I was already pretty much in adult sizes. Is this a charity thing, giving gifts to people who don't have any? If so the girl would be really disapointed if it's pretty much her only present and it doesn't fit. I would stay away from clothes if I were you and get some stationery - pens, notebooks, something like that. Or maybe a little craft set of something to make. Or a jigsaw puzzle or board game.

As a 12-year-old I would know. I am a 12-14 and have been since 11 and a half. But I would say for clothes shopping don't go to somewhere like M&S or next because of growth spurts, but go sainsburys for pants and primark for everything else and BHS and school shops for uniform. When I started wearing womens clothes I got sad because I said I was fat but my mum said I wasn't and I saw womens clothes are better. Also I you want comfortable clothes, I would suggest sports direct

When I was 12 I could still wear a girls size 6, my friends daughter wears a size 8 womens. The gift card idea is a good one since you don't know the girl you have no idea what she already owns.

My daughter is age 10 and is a little small for her age but wears a 10/12, so I would go with the 14/16. If it doesn't fit now, it will sooner or later. Also, if you observe kids at the mall today etc, you will find that many are overweight. Best go with the larger size.
Oh, and Merry Christmas. Nice way to celebrate!
