Honestly? I'm agnostic but I think that some atheists assume they can distinguish reliable sources of information from unreliable sources.
That is usually temporary though. Most atheists tend to be self-correcting, once material evidence is proven. That is the good thing about the scientific method... it is not a static belief. It evolves with the presence of new evidence.
You're going to have a tough time deciding best answer, as there are many good ones!

I would say there is only one thing that I come close to believing that could be called irrational:
A positive attitude will bring positive results.
Some people call this the Law Of Attraction, and say that it's sort of "supernatural". I don't see it that way. But I do believe it does work.

i think that it would be that deep down there is some universal goodness to human nature, something i hold onto on some level, like that there can be such a thing as love between two unrelated people, or that there is a good in us that overrides our basic animal selfish instincts, i would like to think this is a real situation , but my logic keeps saying that it is irrational

Firstly, Atheists do not believe in irrationality. We believe in being rational and live in reality instead of being slaves to religion dogma and superstition. Religion and god believers are the irrational hocus-pocus believers who think they are all going to a heaven, but that heaven can hold only 144 thousand praying idiots.
