It is only considered violent by those who wish to see it that way. Islam is not a violent religion. There is no such place as a violent Islamic country. The actions of a few extremists cannot be brought into a large generalization. Some people are violent, not religions, nor countries. God does not promote violence.God tries to end violence. People promote violence.

Because of the terrorist attacks. Many people assume that all muslims are terrorist because a few extremists fanatics are. It's wrong, but it happens in other countries against other religions too. Some just refuse to see that not all of a religion are as violent as the most outspoken or well seen of that religion.
It shouldn't focus on the religion, but it does. It doesn't help that in some parts of Islamic teachings that there is a declaration of war on non-muslims. I believe this is just a historical account, isn't it, but not everyone reads that far into things.
Just my thoughts and opinions.

If we're to look at this fairly, we have to take standards today. Today, there are people linked to certain religions, who actively kill others indiscriminately... Whereas christians who really follow the bible, don't go around killing people for their cause.
And you have to take violence and killing in context. Say for example, a man is judged in a court of law to have killed many people - and the evidence is undeniable. In some lands, that man could be put to death for his crimes. Would you say that the judge who passed sentence is violent, or a murderer? In the bible, if you really read it, you will see that there is perhaps a reason why the God of the bible acted against certain individuals, or certain nations...

The "violence" you see in the Bible is God's just punishment of men's wickedness. God is incredibly PATIENT with men, He doesn't smite everyone who does wrong or we would all be dead by now.
When you consider the Flood, God was patient for a hundred years, while Noah built the Ark, and Noah told the people around him why he was building it, that is, that God's judgment was coming.
"For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a PREACHER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and seven others;"
God judged Egypt with the ten plagues for the abuse of the children of Israel.
God foretold Abraham, that this would happen in Genesis 15:13-14
"Then the LORD said to him, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.
But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions."
During those 400 years, God was patient with the godless nations of the land of Canaan, and He then used the people of Israel to execute His judgment on those nations.
God also foretold Abraham that this would happen in Genesis 15:16 "In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure."
When God gave His laws to the Israelites He told them to avenge an "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." Why did He do that? Because He knows in our rage we want to pay back double or more for the pain we received.
As to the violence of religions:
Man at the core is wicked, selfish and violent. Have you ever seen a toddler joyfully sharing his toys, unless he was trained to do so? Uncontrolled human beings ARE VIOLENT.
Religions are man-made counterfeits of true faith in God, and they use violence to keep their agendas going.
Did you ever read of the Christians in the New Testament using violence? Except for Peter, cutting of the ear of a servant of the high priest, you don't find violence of the followers of Jesus in the Bible... and even in this instance Jesus told Peter to put the sword away.
In conclusion, the violence of the Crusades, the violence of extremist Muslims, the violence of Communists, just shows what is in man's heart.
True faith in God CHANGES THE HEART!!!

Although the Bible is as violent as the Quran, you don't see Christians walking around with bombs strapped to their bodies, punishing teachers for naming a stupid teddy bear, giving 200 lashes and imprisonment to rape victims, or deliberately flying airplanes into buildings--all in the name of God. You never have and you never will.
: Muslims can scream "we're peaceful" all they want, but until they actually start showing it, nobody is going to believe them. Your countries' governments are not peaceful, and your people are brainwashed to think they're free. They have no idea what freedom is.

Christianity also has a history of violence. However, the Crusades and the Inquistions were hundreds of years ago.
We like to think that we are more enlightened as a people now. (And by "we" I do not mean that I am a Christian, because I am not, I mean that the Western World)
female genital mutilation, honor killings, suicide bombings, the mob calling for the execution of a primary school teacher, all things such as this, even though they have been practiced forever, clash with western enlightened thought. It is violent to us, because we believe that women and men are equal and that religion does not teach us to be submissive.

Because the violent fundamentalist Muslims are in the media more often and cry for violent restitution at the drop of hat, a cartoon, or kids naming a teddy bear Mohammed.
While Christianity has its violent past, too, you don't see modern Christian fundamentalist groups trying to kill people for joking about Jesus. Or attempting to convert by the sword (i.e. do or die).
While I'm sure the media attention given to the freaky people is a large part of it, I think that's why people look at Islam and think, "Eeek! That's kinda violent."

The women in the USA are not whipped 200 lashes after being gang raped for going outside with out a male relative.
Then sent to prison for 6 months. Basically a death sentence.
They don't kill school teachers for naming a teddy bear Jesus.
My niece called her teddy bear Jesus and we thought it was nice.
Not considering the bible or the Koran which is irrelevant.
We do however have to consider the conduct of the people in that religion.
We do not care what Morman's believe, but when they started to take child brides in Colorado and multiple wives the law stepped in and said, "enough"
You are criminals and breaking the law. All religion has to obey the laws of the country they are in.
When sentences are out of touch with the crime, like 200 lashes for going out with out a male relative? That is so far past ridiculous that I won't even comment on it.
The actions of people in the Islamic religion is way to extreme to be normal or acceptable.
I could care less what your holy book says.

See the history of war in between muslim and Jews, we can find the OT is eyes to eyes, tooth to tooth are the flighting for revenge. Now the christian in NT, love your enermies, peace and no war. When religious come to a superinsituation level, there will be no senses to reasonize the results. Like the soldiers, they only obey order and will not consider is it the only way of solution to fight? Superinsituation will become a training dog, only obey order. What is the rules? what is you? Equal? Balance?

The violence in the Bible doesn't make the Koran any less violent. And the reason Islam is widely considered a violent religion might have something to do with the fact that Muslim extremists like to videotape themselves chopping people's heads off.
And sure, the extremists are a minority - but wouldn't it make more sense for the Islamic "moderates" to get outraged over things like videotaped beheadings than cartoons of Mohammed, or teddy bears?
Don't get me wrong - I say none of this in "defense" of Christianity. The only reason Christians aren't still burning people at the stake or hanging them as witches is because of the rise of secular humanism in the West - not that they'd ever admit this!
