If there is no God, how did the universe and life form from nothingness?

I was raised Catholic and I always wondered about this. All the adults I asked told me to not ask silly questions, "He was just always there", or compared it to "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" - like giving a small child an impossible riddle would answer anything. :)

Now that I am older I still don't know the answer, and my curious nature has caused me to question so many things about life that I have lost nearly all of my faith. But I do also wonder...

If the "big bang" made everything, who or what made the "big bang?" Where did all that matter come from?

God (should He exist and should you want Him to) bless you,

The second name of God explains this.

Jehovah - I Am

They call Him the great I Am because he's all existent. There's a depth that mankind can't understand. It's called infinity. Suppose a being was all existent. Existed before man created time. Existed before man created existence. People define things to understand them, but God has always been there. He's always existed. It's something greater than our small minds can comprehend.

Well who or what can create the Creator of all things? God is the First Cause.

Can something eternal ever be said as having a precise start or a point at which its eternity began?

The bible doesn't say God has a God. God is infinite. He is the beginning and the end. He has always existed outside of time he is all powerful he is not held down by the constraints of time. Time for him does not exist ...it's confusing but he's God he can do whatever he wants.

If something created God, then what crated that thing? And the thing before that? and the thing before that? It would simply go on forever. So we can only believe that God always was and always is. Period. I believe it that way. This is were faith comes in, because Science can only explain so much. We just have to believe. If you truely believe in God, this is the alitmate test of faith. God is self existing and needs nothing to survive. He created Himself and He lifes forever. No begining. No end.

If you want an honest answer, some of the ancient Islamic philosophers had great proofs about the perfection of the One. It can be a tough read, but its very thought provoking.

(And now I will get 12 thumbs down for even mentioning the “I” word.)

God said in the beginning he was there. Perhaps is is easier to understand this way. There is no end to space, How can that be? We can not grasp an infinite idea with our finite minds. God was just always there, and he will always be there. And he gives us a chance to be there with him.

Why must everything have an Alpha and Omega except god himself? Why is it not possible that the fundamental matter comprising the universe has always existed?
