i would higly recommend a front and back one for a couple reasons
your toddler (2yr old) will sit in it until she/he is about 5
and the baby can lay down in the back
your toddler is too old to want to sleep so she will like sitting it in and being in the front
but the seat goes back

and the baby in the back can sit or sleep
and the main thing is if it were side by side the 2 yr old would might/ couple hit your baby because u know they get jealous and the baby is too small to kick your 2 yr old

and you can still use it when your childs outgrown it because by then your baby can sit in the front and u can have ur purse and the diaper bag and jackets and stuff in the back when you go out!

hope this helps

and their price difference is little to nothing

I have a 18 month old and I am pregnant with a second child due in April. I wanted a double stroller for the mall and walks around the block etc, but I didn't want to pay a ton of money. i found a used one at a consignment shop. It is one where one kid sits behind the other. It was it good shape and a brand name for about $90. I am planning on using a single stroller when the toddler out grows it. I had one from when he was a baby. I will say to check the stroller and see how easily it folds andhow small it is folded up before you buy it. Good luck

That's a tough question. I guess what I would ask is, how well-behaved is your two year old? Does he/she listen you you, walk beside you holding your hand? Does he/she fight going in the stroller and want to walk? If so, then you can probably get away with not buying a double stroller. You don't want to buy something that will get little to no use. The double strollers are heavy and hard to steer, so if you can get away without it, go for it. Why not trying it out with the baby in a single stroller and the 2 year old walking beside you first? If it's too much for you, then you can pick up the double stroller. You won't look weird with just having the baby in a double stroller, either---look at it this way, it's extra room to stash the diaper bag, everyone's coats, and all the toys! :) Good luck.

You can buy things that snap two strollers together so you can separate them later. Those usually only work for the umbrella strollers.

There are also strollers that have a step on the back so your 2 year old could stand on the step and you can push both around.

There are also some higher end ones that have more flexibility from changing double strollers to single strollers and use the other area for storage. Hope this helps.

I have a 4YO, a 2YO, and a baby on the way. I bought a sit-n-stand type stroller used on my local www.craigslist.org for $65 a year ago, and it's the best thing I ever did. My model has an attachment so you can put in your baby carrier in the front, or you can leave it as a regular stroller seat. My 4YO still likes to ride on the bench seat in back, but it's easy for her to get out if she prefers to walk, which often they do as they get older. The bottom basket can hold a lot of things. And, in a pinch, I could have baby #3 in the carrier in front, the 2YO sitting on the bench, and the 4YO standing on the step for short jaunts such as crossing a busy street.

If you do decide to go the side-by-side route, I'd definitely get the Combi. It's much lighter, fits through doors, and folds up much more easily than most. But those really work better when the kids are closer in age/size, and I think a sit-n-stand style stroller is best for a toddler/preschooler and a baby.

I would suggest getting a tandem seated stroller NOT the side by side. The side by side are lighter most of the time and some can be easier to push, BUT the rarely fit through doorways. When I used a side by side with my twins I only used it once and got rid of it because I couldn't fit through the door at the dr. office, or of our house, or of the resteraunt we were eating at, it was a real pain. I highly reccomend the stroller that we're using now, its called a sit and stand or a sit and stroll. In the front it has a normal stroller seat with attachments to snap a car seat in for infants, but rather than having a second normal seat in the back, it has a small seat and a platform for an older child to stand on while being pushed. I have twins, but one started walking long before the other and she hated be strapped down, so this stroller has worked perfectly for that plus older children seem to enjoy the freedom of choosing whether they want to sit in the seat or stand like a big kid. My friends borrow it all the time when they go out, one has an infant and the other has a 2 year old and it seems to work very well for them as well. Not to mention it's one of the lighter double strollers on the market and it only runs about $150.00

Your 2 year old can use that stroller up until they are like 5 (prolly longer)..depending on their weight and if they are willing to sit instead of walk...anyhow, my suggestion would be to get a double stroller with the side by side seats...i have an eddie bauer stroller...front and back seat and with experience, it is majorly hard to push...i've tried out the side-by-side strollers in the store and it seems a lot easier.. i havent bought one for myself but have been thinking about it....and that way when your toddler grows out of it, you can use the extra seat for a diaper bag or something of that sort.

they also have strollers that are more pricey that you can turn into a single or double stroller.. go to ebay and search strollers.. you will see what im talking about.. they are really cute.. but cost too much for me!

If you think your 2 year old will be happy to be in a stroller for longer then you might consider a double stroller as you will find it nearly impossible to go anywhere with a newborn and small toddler. However having said that, if your toddler walks well and could walk alongside a single stroller, there are cute back-packs with "leads" attached that your toddler can wear so you can hang on to them!

I have a 25 month old and 14 month old, so had no choice but to buy the twin stroller or I wouldn't have been able to go out at all. At this stage my 2 year old is still reasonably happy to be in it but as soon as we stop walking (which often happens at shops) he tries to climb out. He is very good at escaping from the harness! I take the boys out for a walk in it each morning for my fitness and during that he is really good as he loves to look around and see the sights. I know that the time will come soon though that he won't want to be in it quite as much but sometimes I will need him to so he will have to put up with it!

I bought the Steelcraft Twin Stroller (one of the less expensive models, less than $400AU) with pneumatic wheels (in Australia) and it is a side-by-side one, which has been great for my morning walks but so difficult for shopping as it doesn't always fit through doorways or aisles. It gets side-heavy and tips easy so control is an issue, and if my younger son so much as puts his hand over to my 2 year old's side there is usually a meltdown!

I don't know if you can still buy them (I think there may have been a safety issue) but the strollers which have room to attach a toddler seat on the front may be the way to go, then you won't be having to push just one child around in a double pram if your toddler outgrows it. Some strollers have attachments where the older child can stand on a platform as well, but your child might get tired or fall off! I have seen quite a lot of parents with those toddler seats but never asked an opinion of them. I've heard the tandem strollers are hard to steer and push, side by side ones are easy to manoeuvre but again, difficult in doorways!

Whatever you decide, you will probably still need room for your toddler so if not the double stroller then one with an attachment seat.

Good luck!

My friend has twins. She got a double stroller that holds each kid up to 45 lbs. It's by Combi and it's awesome!! I'm definitely going to consider that one in the future. That would be practical for you even in a couple years, because on long walks or at theme parks, etc even a 4 or 5 year old gets tired.
And once your older one never or rarely uses it, just stick a diaper bag or your purse in the other seat.
Congratulations on your upcoming baby!!
**The tandem double strollers are way harder to use. They are like pushing a semi! The Combi I mentioned is really easy and fits through doorways. It's designed not to be massive, but it gets the job done nonetheless.
Oh yeah, that Combi stroller only weighs 21 lbs and folds up SO easily!! Here is a link for you.

I had a 2 year old and a baby also, once my oldest started wanting to walk more, I loved having the extra seat, for toys, diaper bags, etc. Or you can buy a single stroller and they have an attatchment for it where your older child can ride. I am not sure what its called, but i believe its a little platform on the back.
