Am I to assume that this recipe is asking for unsalted butter because it also has you adding salt to the cookies. I found this statement and am wondering if it is true. Recipes are written for unsalted butter. If you only have salted in the house, omit any salt that might be in the recipe.

1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE SWIRLED Holiday Morsels
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
Powdered sugar

Yes, they mean 'unsalted'.

"Additionally, the amount of salt added to salted butter varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, so it's hard to know how much extra salt you're adding to a recipe. Using unsalted butter allows the chef to control the amount of salt in a recipe.
If you have no choice but to use salted butter in a recipe, the rule of thumb is to omit about 1/4 teaspoon salt per 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter."
