My experience of living in both places is that they are about equivalent.
The political systems are both based on the British parlimentary system, but politics in the two countries definately has a different flavor. The subject of the military is a real sore point for me personally, and Canada's take on it is very attractive.
Also consider population: the population of Canada is a bit over 33 million. Population of the US is over 300 million; 10 times as many people. The tax base is different, demographics as a percentage of population are different. So, the priorities for how money gets spent are different.
Salaries are comparable in similar areas; jobs are comparable in similar areas.
It's my impression that the cost of living is a bit higher in Canada than, say, the southern US. Several factors but it boils down to the cold weather. It's just more expensive to run a household in places where temps can get well below 0F in winter. Of course, Canada's west coast is warmer, just like the northern US gets pretty dratted cold in winter.
It's hard to generalize 'better' one way or the other. You have to evaluate what's important to you.

You can be smart and self-sufficient all you want. But if you don`t come from a family that has a lot of money or if you don`t own a Corporation.Canada is a better place to live.
Because the u.s.a. does not care about the people that are just trying to make a living. The only one`s the u.s.a. Care about are the one`s that are the rich or the one`s that own Corporation`s.
P.S. I am a poor American and i am not like the rich person that has never had to go with out.I have had to pay high
tax-as when i can find work so the rich can have their cake and eat it to.

More opportunities the USA. More benefits Canada but you will pay high taxes just to get health care. (Aint nothing free)
I find Canada to be a lot more expensive than the US.

Canada! Have you seen their schools? They look like playgrounds, with grass and everything. Very cold in some areas too! My husband and I went to see the Niagara Falls, gorgeous. The houses are nice and cheaper too! I am not sure about the jobs but I would say that you need to be in the big cities to get good jobs. My husband is in IT and says that Toronto is pretty good.

Depends on the person. Both countries offer great chances for success. Life is what you make it.

It depend on what type of person you are.
If you are a smart, driven, self-sufficient person, the US is better. The opportunities to succeed are limitless.
If you are a person who follows, does just enough, and needs to feel support to be happy, Canada is a better choice.

A lot would probably depend on how you feel about cold weather.
