There's a bid on my eBay account that I didn't make. It's for a $58,000 automobile. I don't have this kind of scratch laying around and would never buy a Japanese sportscar.

I have reported the fraud to eBay, the FTC, my local police department, and all 3 credit bureaus? I have changed my passwords on my eBay account, my PayPal account, and my personal email.

What can I do to protect my computer...somehow I was violated and I don't like doing all this clean up work.

I don't think it was a phish. I looked on the My eBay page and it's on there. The bid occured at 3:47pm in the afternoon while I was at a sports bar watching the Patriots/Steelers game. Plus all the previous users that bid on that item have oddly similar names....usually m***a, s***n, and r***0.

Are you certain that it is actually eBay? There are a lot of spammers who are sending out emails like that, and then when you click on something to report that you didn't make the bid, you get phished.

Have you logged into your eBay account to make sure they actually have a bid on such a thing?

If so, I know that eBay can trace the IP address of where the bid came from. That might not prove who did it, but it could certainly prove that you didn't.

Good luck. US Credit Card laws are on your side here. I wouldn't lose much sleep over it...I'd worry about this weekend instead if I were you.

i would suggest also contacting the seller of the automobile to let them know that it was not you who bid on it. sometimes people pretending to be from ebay spam our inboxes saying that we need to put in our password or login name or something like that...maybe that's how they got you.

Maybe you have a trojan ... have you checked your firewall? Also spybot search & destroy.
