That's a hard question to answer -

To me to be a follower of a religion is someone who actively pursues the values/beliefs or as in Christianity, is someone who actively follows Christ, that they may become more like and encompass more of who he is. Um also to ask how many people are followers of Christianity is different than asking about how many people in the world follow Christ.

For many people Religion can just be a box they tick on a census paper but only because family tradition not hat it denies their faith but going to church once or twice a year as an occasion could be different from following.

Yet the statisical numbers you would find include all types of Christians, which in countires where you're not allowed to practice there are many uncounted strong followers who are martyed for their faith even today- yet such countries have no way of realeasing such statical numbers.

The most recent numbers I could find show the world Christianinty to stand at 2.1 billion/ about 30-33%

Only God knows. "Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." (2 Timothy 2:19)
