Usually an hour is the set time; but check with your employer to be sure. I work a job that's pretty flexible; somedays I don't take a lunch and leave early for a doctor's appt or I may run over a bit on a lunch hour and make it up by staying late or coming in early - that's one of the good things about being salaried.

I understand how this salaried employee thing is sort of hard to get used to. No longer will someone come and check on your comings and goings...no more time clock to punch. But...although you can take a long or short lunch...it's up to you...you may find that you take shorter and shorter ones, because you have work that needs to be finished. My 40 hour work week was sometimes 60 hours when it had to be, and sometimes 20 or 30 hours when the golf course looked really nice. You obviously were someone that management thought had some common sense.....use it. Good luck and congrats on the new position.

Lunch breaks vary by employer as much as they do by country. For example, in Hispanic culture, a three hour break in the middle of the day may be the norm!
Here in the U.S however, typical lunch breaks range from 30-60 minutes. Wikipedia cites one hour as being the typical maximum.
Since lunch breaks are a fairly undocumented topic, it is difficult to know with confidence the absolute maximum and minimum, however I feel the numbers I have provided you represent the sentiments of the majority of employers.

Typically an hour but it depends on your schedule. If you are scheduled to work 9 hour days, then lunch should be an hour giving you 8 paid hours a day. If your day is only 8.5 hours then you probably only get a 30 min. lunch. Mine is an hour and that's barely enough time to do what I need to do, if I have to run an errand/pay a bill, etc during lunch. Talk to your boss & find out the policy!

It depends on your work day. I work 9 hours a day (8 am to 5 pm) and I get an hour for lunch. That is how it has been for me for quite some time. At my last job though, we got paid for 9 hours and only got a 1/2 hour lunch. We were so busy.

Traditionally lunches are an hour, but you will find that "lunch" as a salaried employee is a notional concept and you'll spend more time working than eating.

Depends on the hours you are working. I'll assume 8 which means you are entitled to a 1 hr lunch and two 15 min. break.
