Shanghai s fairly near the mouth of the Yangtze River, but the Huangpu river runs through Shanghai, I know I've been across the Huangpu on the ferry - a very busy river. The famous Bund stands on the banks of the Huangpu and the Jin Mao Tower and the Oriental Pearl Tower are nearby.

The Yellow river is much further (100s of miles) North in China.

Huangpu River, the most important shipping artery of Shanghai, wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea. The yellow and ice-free Huangpu River is 114 kilometers (71 miles) long, 400 meters (0.25 miles) wide and has an average depth of nine meters (30 feet).

First: Suzhou River joins Huangpu River in Shanghai. So you could say Shanghai is near the mouth of Suzhou River. 2nd: Huangpu River joins Yangzi River just outside of Shanghai city centre. So you could say Shanghai is near the mouth of Huangpu River. Finally, Yangzi River joins the East China Sea not far from Shanghai. So you could say Shanghai is near the mouth of Yangzi River....

also spelled Shang-hai city, and province-level shih (municipality), east-central China. It is one of the world's largest seaports and a major industrial and commercial centre of China. The city is located on the coast of the East China Sea between the mouth of the Yangtze River to the north and the bays of Hangchow and Yü-p'an to the south.
