No problem watching std cable. Get one with a QAM tuner and you may pick up digital cable and the HD channals, I have a Hitachi and an Olevia both with QAM tuners and I get all the HD and Digital channals as well as regular cable channals with no cable box, I do not get the premium channals like HBO but the basic digital and network HD channals (comcast cable).

If you have an HD tuner you can not only watch cable but HD digital channels that normal TVs wont' get. Such as 117-2 or 117-3. If you don't have a HD tuner you will need to get a box from you cable company with component or HDMI outputs to watch HD but either way you can still watch cable.

You can watch cable on a hdtv. The only difference b/w hd and regular tv is that you have the option to subscribe to the true hd channels, which give an amazing picture.

the only way is to pay for a "premium" cable package, or if you want to to watch your local over the air channels in HD, just purchase an HD antenna. I work at an electronics store, and the HD antenna picks up great picture. They're only $20

You can watch cable but you will not be able to watch the high def channels without the proper HD receiver. If you want the high def channels you will need to talk to your cable subscriber about a HD receiver. If you do not just plug in your cable and watch. An HDTV has the inputs for HD components if you have them it has your basic inputs as well if you do not.

you can watch regular cable, but why? Once you see HD you'll never really want to watch anything else.
