Does anybody else have got psoriasis?
I'm 16 and I've got psoriasis on my scalp for about two years now. Sometimes it's not that bad and other times...
I'd like to know how you feel about your psoriasis, because, it's not that easy to deal with sometimes...
Oh yeah, and how big is the possibility that I'll have it on other places?

Hi, Just to let you know its a common problem amongst teens. Im 18 now but wen I was 14-16 i had i really bad on my head, and my body. I was really good at hiding it and was very self concious. I never did any PE at school because it ment getting changed and people seeing me. I think its easy to become self concious because people dont understand psoriasis. I used to say it was ezsma as people know and understand what that is. As soon as you say psoriasis they would give me a weird look. It important to remember not to stress about it as it can make the condition worse. There are many treatments avalible. One I found very useful was coicois for the scalp. It stops the flaking.

As for the chances of you getting it in other places well it depends on the type of psoriasis. Some people just get it in one specific place such as an elbow but it can just one day apear somewhere else. There is a possibility that after pubity has finished the psoriasis will disapear forever. But at this moment in time your just going to have to try and cope with it. Remember not to be self concious :D let people know what it is and smile

I have psoriasis as well. Notice I said have, not had, because even though I don't have any redness right now it is an auto-immune disorder that doesn't come and go, you either have the gene for it or you don't. Some people might never know if they have it or not if they never have a breakout. Doctors aren't sure exactly what causes flareups, but it's logical to think something like a bad cold would cause it, because psoriasis is a result of the immune system overreacting. Stress is also said to be a common factor. Though it can be itchy, psoriasis has no other ill physical effects. A hit in self-esteem is the biggest consequence. I went through middle school with a vest of red on my back, and it looked like I had ringworm on my chest. OTC Psoriasis products do absolutely nothing except prevent itching. To get rid of the redness, the best method is light treatment, be it in a light box or, if you're fortunate enough, you can get out in the sun on your own. The downside is cost (even if it is covered by your health insurance light treatment is expensive), but if it's going to affect your self-esteem to the point where it affects other facets of your life it is worth the money.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

I was born with it.(rare but it's true) It's actually an immunity disease. You're skin cells are attacking themselves and that it what causes it.

I suggest googling Psoriasis, and finding a Dermo who can talk about Treatments for you're specific case.
As far as on the scalp the Shampoo T-Gel is the best, clears in right up. Remember Diet stress and weather can affect your skin and immune system.

Good luck

I first suffered from psoriasis 24 years ago after a car accident, due to the stress. I had it for about 2 years really bad on my hands and feet, so bad on my hands that all my finger nails fell off. I worked in a jewellers at the time which involved showing items to customers and I was really embarassed about my hands, I used to wear cotton gloves to try to hide it, but probably only emphasized it more.
I have very small flare ups every now and then but its generally under control, hopefully yours will settle down too.

I got psoriasis when I was 22 and have had it now for 32 years. I've got it on my elbows, inside one ear, above one eye, sometimes on my back, sometimes scalp, sometimes on my legs. The more stress you have the more it will come out, at least that's how it is with mine. It can show up anywhere at any time, and it can even show up on the inside of your body or in your joints.

I've just gotten used to it. I used to try to cover it up and then decided not to bother. If other people don't like to look at it they can look the other way.
