The People to People Student Ambassador Program is an amazing opportunity that you should deffinately take advantage of if given the chance. It is a program for kids in 5th-12th grade that gives them a chance to explore the world, promote peace and a good idea of the United States, and allow students to have hands-on experience with other cultures. The trips usually range from 18-21 days, with some exceptions. They're around $6,000. This price includes EVERYTHING, except for your spending money. The Program gives students opportunities that most people are never given throughout their entire lifetime. I'm sixteen years old. When I was thirteen I traveled to Australia for 18 days with People to People. It was an experience I will absolutely never forget. I love the program greatly, and plan on traveling once more before I graduate high school.

The students on the program take a trip somewhere in the world and spend a few days (2-3) living with a host family in the foreign country.

My daughter went on it a few years ago, she went to Italy, France and Spain. Lived with a family in Nice France for a few days. I think she was gone a total of 22 days.

Prior to the trip, her group spent the bulk of the school year studying up on the places they were going to visit. Once a month they met for a few hours as a group to get to know each other and to learn about their destination. Her group was made up of kids from southern New Hampshire & northern Massachusetts. Only 2 other kids on the trip were from her school. The chaperons were teachers from various other schools within that region. Not only did she learn about the countries she visited, she made friends with kids at "rival" schools.

The idea behind the program is that if you learn about another culture you will be less inclined to follow the herd in the formation of an opinion about a culture in order to promote world peace. The program was started by Dwight D. Eisenhower after the end of WWII.

It's a much better program than the EF Tours trips that are offered through many schools. With EF Tours, your basically a tourist. People to People really invests in the educational aspects and you get to see/do a lot more than you would on the EF Tour.
