We just received some silver rim porcelan dinnerware.
It says on the dinnerware, and on the box, you can put this in the dishwasher, but will the silver part come off?

No because it's not real silver like in the old days. It's a metal glaze and it won't rub off like color won't rub off. The old china and glass that use to rub is due to the fact they actually used real gold and silver on things which does not permanently bond to china or glass.

But if you feel your dishwasher is not working properly- never stick your china in it and always use the proper soap.

If it says dishwasher safe it most likely is. It wouldn't say dishwasher safe if the silver part would come off. Just don't stick it in the microwave.

No.

I have china from the 1930's rimmed in silver that is still perfect. I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, though. Washing dishes that way causes tiny pits in the dishes that dulls them over time.

It shouldn't come off, especially if it says dishwasher safe. But I would keep the box and receipts just in case.

There's always the possibility, because it depends upon the type of washer, detergent, rinse agent, etc.
It's just better to wash them by hand. Remember, too, to NOT use them in the microwave!!!

They're from Crate and Barrel so you'll be fine.
But, if the silver does come off, Crate and Barrell will replace them.

i just went to a porcelain manufactory today and they said not to put porcelain with gold in the dishwasher, so I guess the same goes for silver. I wouldn't risk it.
