I have been working as a management trainee in retail for the past five months. I am about to lose my job and my manager offered me another position in the company as a pharmacy technician. She says I am not cut out as a manager and I am a follower and not a leader.

She also said that I am better whne I focus on one task and that I seem pretty miserable right now in the job.

Accept the professional criticism. There could be some truth to it. Ask yourself why you signed up in the first place. Consider it a blessing to have people give you honest feedback. Good luck with your new position, should you choose to accept it.

Well, you've been unhappy in this job for a long time. Why don't you try the pharmacy technician job and see if you like that better. If you don't, you can take the time to look for a new job while you're still employed. You can also go back to your old college and see if they have any career advice for you from the career center (common for new grads). Also, and I've said this before, you should read, "What Color Is My Parachute" to see what you would like better. It's a great book and will help you fit your skills and talents to a career.

I think you have to ask yourself how you feel about what she said and be honest with yourself. A leader knows that they can lead and a follower is confused. Could you lead better than the critic? Yes or no. Be honest if the answer is no she might be right.

Take the criticism. But, if you do not agree with it, you don't have to accept it. Maybe it's just not your interest. I could be a leader, but, I choose not too. But, DON'T EVER tell me what I can't do! I'll make you prove it.
