Why rush off to the county clerk's office to get married (in the U.S.) only to turn around and either 1) lie to friends and family about being married or 2) further deceive everyone by putting on a fake ceremony later. That's a pretty big lie to have to cover up for free people living in the U.S. And how unAmerican is that for miliary to do that?

Hi. Ummm....don't criticize. I know you are talking about the person that posted this last night. No one is obliged to tell their whole life story. Obviously, they needed to get married before he deployed in case he was seriously injured or killed she would get the benefits. Sometimes things just snowball. They did have good intentions on having a "real" wedding (which is lame, I do agree), so they decided to keep it a secret.
I have no idea, nor do you, why they chose to keep it a secret...but he was asking for help now.
No one should judge others. And there is nothing un-American about it. He is in the military....so I would say that that qualified him of being very "American."

how un-friend and family like is it to pry? some people are private and do things for private reasons.. if one of the people in this marriage are in the military they may have gotten married to protect their spouse financially and as a result not have waited for the "wedding" and I see nothing fake in renewing vows. these are mostly silly rituals done for show and tradition and only mean what you put into them.

People just want to be together, it's not about freedom it's about doing what they want to do. That's the excitement about living in a FREE country. We don't have disclose everything that we do, or be honest about it.
Sometimes, families don't want their children to do certain things....
I don't understand what the US military has to due with this at all, can you explain... I think our military should do what they want as they FIGHT hard for us. So, please don't sit there and talk trash about them and their decisions. USA is the Land of the FREE!
