Have you ever seen a drunk person? How did it effect you? Most people are idiots when drunk. If drank in excess, it can cause major liver damage and even death. As far as the effects on the brain I'm not quite sure besides causing major depression.

Of course. The latest word is that approximately 1 drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men (a drink = 1 beer, 1 glass of wine or 1 1.5 oz. shot) is healthy for you and actually healthier than not having any at all, but if you exceed that amount on a regular basis, you are risking damage to brain and liver and of course people around you depending on how intoxicated you get and what you do and how you act while under the influence of alcohol. Any amount has an effect on your judgement and reaction time and other body functions. You can develop liver cirosis and other health problems also. Just like anything else in moderation is not a problem. It's when you do it to excess that you have problems.

Yes, this is a difficult one from every angle because as we call it in England, "Sin Tax" is obviously blood money and doesn't help the situation. I wish I knew the answer to this problem because once people are hooked, there's no getting them off it. Some people can abstain for a little while but they always seem to return to the "demon drink" as we say in Britain. I have to agree with you that taxing it and profiting from others' misfortune is no way to stem the flow or ease the situation. Prohibition is really the only answer, but things have spiralled out of control now so has it gone too far to claw it back and STOP the sale of alcohol/nicotine/drugs etc., altogether? It would seem so. How would the medical profession cope/deal with all the addicts who would be in desperate straits? We should never have allowed the genie out of the bottle in the first place. Sometimes things go too far to retrieve them. If we were willing though, it would mean agony for this generation, but a bright future for the next generation to live totally WITHOUT ANY ALCOHOL OR DRUGS OR NICOTINE WHATSOEVER. Hm Utopia! I believe only Christ can change any of it for ever. Men make a mess of everything they touch. Alcohol and drugs are a typical example of greed. How can a government believe that their hands are clean of peoples' blood when they have benefited off the back of the poor addicts? They will have to answer to God for the decisions they have made in government, just as we all will. God didn't raise them up to kill the people. They were put there for our good. However, do we Christians all pray for our governments every day as God commanded so that they will make wise decisions and all will go well with us? Even that is doubtful.

Alcoholism destroys brain cells, causes cirrhosis of the liver and alienation of family, friends and acquaintances due to personality changes. It can also cause blood vessels of the gullet to rupture which can lead to death unless attended to immediately. Eventually, alcoholism will kill.

Are you joking? Drinking affects all your systems and your mind. It is hazardous to you and others in the society. Just check how many of road accidents are caused by drunken driving.
