Is salt, just that, salt? I was wondering if the salt they spread on streets ect. is the same salt you put on your food? Is it edible? I'm not planning on eating it but was just wondering.

Good question, a little out in left field, but still a good question: Basically, yes it starts out the same as the sodium chloride that we use as table salt, but it has a miriad of other ingredients (including sand) that supposedly give more traction to traffic during the snow season.......Eating it is another matter, not recommedned......due to the other harsh chemicals that are included in the mix......although it may be a good way to get traction for the vehicle, it plays hell on the underside of the car........rusts it out very quickly unless you have an undercoating such as a Rhinoliner undercoating.....Enjoy the holidays!!

Absolutely no, they put in chemicals to keep the salt from sticking together, sometimes a product called blue vitrol, and also they have been known to use arsenic.

Safety salt is calcium chloride so no it is not a good idea to eat it. Table salt is of course sodium chloride, fortified with iodine. and pickling salt is straight NaCl
